Publication Ethics
INTAN Jurnal Penelitian Tambang is a scholarly journal established to serve as a source of information and knowledge in the field of mining. INTAN publishes original research articles, literature reviews, and case studies focusing on various aspects of mining, including exploration, exploitation, mineral processing, metallurgy, mining regulations and policies, mineral utilization, mining economics, and other scholarly studies related to these fields.
This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities and standards of conduct for all parties involved in the publication process of articles in this journal. The publication ethics statement of INTAN Jurnal Penelitian Tambang refers to Regulation of the Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) No. 5 of 2014 on the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publication. In principle, the publication process upholds three fundamental ethical values:
- Impartiality, namely freedom from conflicts of interest in the management and publication process;
- Fairness, namely providing authorship credit to individuals who are legitimately entitled to be recognized as authors; and
- Honesty, namely, ensuring freedom from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism (DF2P) in scholarly publication.
Responsibilities of Authors
1. Reporting Standards
Authors are required to present accurate and reliable reports of their research without fabrication, falsification, inappropriate manipulation, or misrepresentation of research data. Authors should clearly present the significant findings and relevant discussions arising from their research. Submitted manuscripts must comply with the journal's submission guidelines and provide sufficient information and references to allow other researchers to reproduce, evaluate, or further develop the research.
2. Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that all submitted manuscripts are entirely original works. A manuscript submitted to INTAN Jurnal Penelitian Tambang must not be simultaneously submitted to another journal. An author may submit only one manuscript for publication in a single volume of the journal.
All sources and relevant literature used in the manuscript must be properly acknowledged and cited. Any text, statement, or material directly taken from another publication must be appropriately identified and cited in accordance with accepted academic citation practices.
3. Authorship
Published research must make a significant scholarly contribution, particularly to the conception, design, execution, analysis, interpretation, or presentation of the research reported in the manuscript. The corresponding or first author is responsible for ensuring that all individuals who have made substantial contributions to the work are appropriately recognized as co-authors and that all listed authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript before publication.
4. Fundamental Errors in Published Articles
If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their submitted or published manuscript, they must promptly notify the journal editor or publisher. Authors are expected to cooperate with the editor in correcting, revising, or, where necessary, retracting the published work.
Responsibilities of Editors
1. Publication Decisions
Based on the evaluation and recommendations of the editorial board and reviewers, editors may accept, reject, or request revisions to submitted manuscripts. Editors may consult with other editors or reviewers when making editorial decisions. Editors are responsible for decisions concerning the publication of manuscripts and for maintaining the academic and editorial integrity of the journal. The final decision regarding publication rests with the journal's editor or editorial board.
2. Manuscript Review
Editors must ensure that each submitted manuscript undergoes an initial editorial assessment, including an evaluation of its originality and suitability for the journal's scope. Editors should arrange an appropriate peer-review process involving qualified, competent, and impartial reviewers. Reviewers should provide constructive feedback to authors and clearly identify aspects of the manuscript that require clarification, revision, or improvement.
3. Fairness and Impartiality
Editors must ensure that every manuscript submitted to the journal is evaluated based on its intellectual and scholarly content, without discrimination based on the author's gender, ethnicity, race, religion, nationality, institutional affiliation, or other personal characteristics. Editorial decisions must be fair, objective, and consistent with the principles of editorial integrity.
4. Confidentiality
Editors must maintain the confidentiality of information contained in submitted manuscripts. Manuscripts and related information must not be disclosed to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, editors, or other authorized individuals involved in the editorial process. Editors must also carefully consider potential violations of data protection and confidentiality and ensure that information obtained during the editorial process is handled appropriately.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
1. Standards of Objectivity
Reviewers must evaluate submitted manuscripts objectively and express their opinions clearly, supported by appropriate arguments and evidence. Reviews should follow the journal's guidelines and provide specific, constructive, and relevant feedback to help authors improve the quality of their manuscripts. Reviewers should provide recommendations and comments that support their assessment of the scientific arguments and findings presented in the manuscript.
2. Confidentiality
Information concerning manuscripts submitted by authors must be treated as confidential. Reviewers must not disclose, share, or discuss the manuscript or its contents with others except as authorized by the editor. Confidential information and ideas obtained through the peer-review process must be kept confidential and must not be used for personal advantage or benefit.
3. Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers should ensure that relevant sources and previous research have been appropriately acknowledged by the authors. Reviewers should identify relevant published works that have not been properly cited or acknowledged in the manuscript. Reviewers must promptly notify the editorial board if they identify any substantial similarity between the manuscript under review and another manuscript submitted to the journal or any previously published article.
4. Timeliness
Reviewers should respond within the agreed-upon timeframe. Reviewers should accept an invitation to review a manuscript only if they are reasonably confident that they can complete the review within the agreed period. If additional time is required, reviewers should inform the editor as soon as possible. If a reviewer is unable to complete the review within the specified timeframe, they should promptly notify the editor so that the manuscript can be assigned to another qualified reviewer.
